Our Story


This is the unlikely story of how UpdatesCentral went from "cool idea" to a company serving more than 500 local businesses and dozens of franchises.


UpdatesCentral was conceived in the summer of 2009, when Patrick Baynes (Founder & CEO) worked part-time at Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub & Eatery in Columbus, Georgia. A recent alumni of LinkedIn and budding technology entrepreneur, Patrick observed the massive opportunity Facebook was giving Scruffy’s to engage their best customers, yet their social accounts were rarely updated.

The business owner was left to manage social marketing either by herself or spend hundreds each month hiring someone she could trust. Patrick knew there must be a better solution, and that local businesses should be able to engage their customers on Facebook each day without needing costly help. 

The idea stayed in Patrick’s head until 2011, when Will Dyson joined as CTO and developed version 1.0 of the UpdatesCentral platform, allowing businesses to engage their customers without lifting a finger. In 2014, Michael Coupe joined as co-founder and COO to lead customer operations and scale the organization.

As of 2018, UpdatesCentral has grown to serve more than 500 local businesses and dozens of franchises with operations in Philadelphia, New York, and Puerto Rico.

Patrick Baynes
Founder & CEO

Patrick Baynes is an entrepreneur and marketing executive. His career started at LinkedIn in 2007, which led to the founding of PeopleLinx in 2009 (acquired by Frontline).  In 2015 Patrick became the CEO of UpdatesCentral where he leads vision, execution, and customer relationships.

Michael Coupe
Co-Founder & COO

Michael Coupe is a certified sports medicine professional who received his MBA from Wagner College and has great hands-on experience in early stage ventures. He joined Updates Central in 2014, as a co-founder and head of operations and customer success.

Will Dyson
CTO

Will Dyson is a senior developer and product manager with over a decade's worth of experience building custom applications and technical IT support systems across multiple platforms. Will is the original architect of the UpdatesCentral platform and continues to lead product development. ​

Rick Eastland
CFO

Rick Eastland is senior finance and operations executive who has served as controller and CFO for companies of all sizes. Prior to UpdatesCentral, Rick served as CFO at PeopleLinx, the social marketing company founded by Patrick Baynes and Nathan Egan in 2009.

VP, Business Development

Daniel Provine is a marketing technology sales executive with experience across consumer and B2B advertising platforms. At UpdatesCentral Dan leads national sales and lead generation across multiple industries and business lines. 

Keith Cork
Creative Director 

Keith Cork is a senior marketing director with  nearly a decade of experience supporting digital transformation and social media content programs. Prior to UpdatesCentral, Keith worked as a freelance writer and in store operations at Target.
